Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly
Each of the English regions outside London had a regional chamber or Regional Assembly. They were appointed by central government to advise on regional issues but included representatives of local authorities, business and voluntary bodies.
They were responsible for developing and co-coordinating a broad vision for improving the quality of life in the region. In planning, the Assembly was responsible for setting priorities and preparing the Regional Spatial Strategy.
The Regional Assembly ceased to exist as of 1st April 2009 with its responsibilities being transferred to the Regional Development Agency and local Government Office (Local Government Yorkshire and Humber).
