Single conversation

The single conversation is the way the Homes and Communities Agency(HCA) will talk to LAs. In effect it is the way in which it will bridge local ambition and national targets, and agree and secure local delivery. By working in a co-operative and consensual basis with local authorities, it aims to become local government’s best delivery partner, able to secure more and better outcomes than would be achieved through a top-down, centralised approach.

The term ‘single’ refers to the comprehensive coverage of the approach, which embraces the full range of housing and regeneration activities. The single conversation covers all housing and regeneration priorities in a local area, including growth, renewal, affordability and sustainability, and how these areas are interconnected. The concept is still bedding in. Broadly speaking, over time, it is expect that a single conversation will cover strategy, investment, capacity and delivery.
